This incredible coaster is a must-have for Murakami fans. Inspired by 1Q84 by Murakami, this coaster is a great way to break the clutter and add some literary magic to your life.

You never know where you’ll find yourself when you pick up one of Haruki Murakami’s novels. I’ve come to believe that’s exactly the way it should be. 1Q84 is no exception. It’s hard to provide much of an overview with any spoilers, as much of the joy of the work is discovering piece by piece what is going on, suffice to say the plot follows two characters: Aomame an aloof and professional woman who doesn’t suffer fools and has a rather unique job, and Tengo – an aloof (but more in a daydreamy artist kind of way) teacher by day, aspiring author by night. While their stories are separate Murakami seamlessly weaves together their tales to one epic thread.

Most characters in the modern commercial genre called “literary fiction” take for granted a certain unexamined metaphysics and worry exclusively about the higher-level complexities of circumstance and relationships. However, in Murakami’s world, his characters never cease to express their bafflement about the nature of time, or change, or consciousness, or moral choice, or the simple fact of finding themselves alive, in this world or another. In this sense, Murakami’s heroes and heroines are all philosophers.

Such wounds to the heart will probably never heal. But we cannot simply sit and stare at our wounds forever.
